MCA #10 - Saturday morning

The bed Roy woke up in was rather big, but big beds were fun and he wriggled away from the girl sleeping beside him to inspect the heap of kittens lying at the foot of the bed. Dee got up to inspect him back and her whiskers tickles his cheek and nose, making Roy giggle.

"Stop that! It tickles."

He frowned. "I'm not letting you get poisoned."

"What if it's just pretend?" Aly asked curiously.

"Why would you pretend to get poisoned?" Roy asked, utterly confused by this girl.

"It'd be fun!" she said. "Like playing with swords."

"You're weird," he told her, moving to sit down a little bit away from her.

Dee abandoned Aly's attempts to forcefeed her cookies and wandered over to sniff at Roy.

"Weird is good," Aly said. "My daddy said."

"Is he a knight too?" Roy asked, petting the kitten.

"No, of course not," she said. "He's the Baron."

"What does a baron do?" Roy wondered.

"I dunno," Aly said, standing up to get her hot chocolate then sitting back down. "He's a soldier and he fixes things."

"Oh," Roy considered it, taking another drink from his cocoa as he saw Aly get hers. By now he had a nice chocolate moustache. "Is he an alchemist?"

"No, he doesn't do magic at all," she said, sliding a cookie to Roy.

"Alchemy isn't magic," Roy repeated, eyeing the cookie for a moment.

"Why not?" Aly asked. "You don't know."

"I do know," he finally caved, because he was a kid and he liked cookies. He snagged it up, quickly biting a big piece off.

"Can you do it then?" she asked, beaming that he'd eaten the cookie.

"Yes," he said, his mouth still full as he squashed the rest of the cookie in.

Aly bounced up. "I wanna ssee!"

Roy blushed, suddenly nervous. "I'm not supposed to."

"No one's gonna stop you," she pointed out. "An I'll do what you say if you do."

He frowned as he considered the bribe. "You can't tell anyone."

She raised her right hand to solemnly draw an x over her heart.

"Okay," he still looked wary about the whole thing. "What do you like?"

"Swords and lockpicks and dresses and horses and doggies and kitties and knives and castles and ponies," Aly said. She took a breath to start with more things.

"One thing!" Roy stopped her instantly, thinking he might sit here for a very long time if she continued.
