MCA #7 - After noon

Having the day off, Roy was reading through a book on Earth weapons. His chess board was on the dining room table, set up already for a game that he intended to win. He would need his uniform to get cleaned after it got cake on it after all. For now, he was actually wearing slacks and a white shirt. He could do casual.

She raised an eyebrow. "You're questioning my word?"

"You didn't give me your word," he argued. "You made a promise. There's a difference and one a spy probably keeps in mind."

"Some could argue there is no difference," she pointed out.

"Do you?" he asked curiously.

"Not particularly," she said lightly.

Roy glanced up at her and nodded, but didn't ask any further and reached to drink from his glass instead.

She looked at him for permission then opened the box of chocolates to take one. "Yeah. I keep my promises." She grinned. "I doubt I could kill him anyway. He keeps me entertained."

"You seem to keep each other entertained," Roy remarked. "Although I fear what will be happening next if you keep trying to outdo the other."

"All fun and games, General Mustang. All fun and games," she replied.

"Corporal," he corrected, shaking his head before deciding to move his bishop. "Don't forget the rest of that saying, miss Alianne."

"Until someone gets hurt? Not possible," she said lightly. "He has superpowers and I'm very agile."

Roy smirked at her. "If you say so," he said, his attention still on the board.

"Which is convenient because I do," she smirked back.

She watched the board for a long minute and finally took his knight. There was an evil look up at him and she asked. "So why are you nervous about me looking at those books?"

He blinked as he looked up at her. "Who says I'm nervous about that?"

Aly raised an eyebrow at him. "You saying you weren't?"

"Not particularly," he said with a frown.

"Hmmm, if you say so," she said, not quite believing him.

He caught up on that too. "It's been a while since I picked u pan alchemy book," he said.

"Because there aren't State Alchemists any more?"

It surprised him that was the question she went for. "No. There's still plenty of alchemists around."

"Why haven't you then?" she asked, looking at him thoughtfully.

"What use are they to me if I don't use alchemy anymore?" Roy asked.

"Why don't you use alchemy?" she asked softly, getting to the heart of the matter.

"I believe you already asked that once and you didn't capture another piece," he pointed out as he moved his bishop again.

"There's no rule about asking a question again," Aly replied, sliding her rook out in return.
