MCA #7 - After noon

Having the day off, Roy was reading through a book on Earth weapons. His chess board was on the dining room table, set up already for a game that he intended to win. He would need his uniform to get cleaned after it got cake on it after all. For now, he was actually wearing slacks and a white shirt. He could do casual.

"Isn't that what all you soldiers boast about?" she replied, moving out another pawn.

"Being in the field is simple enough," Roy agreed, his attention more on the board than on her. "Receive orders and follow them through. It's harder outside of that when you're moving up the ranks."

Aly nodded, not disputing that. "Everything's more political."

"I should have seen that coming," Roy laughed and moved his rook into play.

"You really, really should have," she grinned, setting up with another pawn.

"You came from my left," he told her, trying to see what she was planning to do.

Aly waved a hand dismissively. "Excuses, excuses."

"Hmph," Roy leaned forward and damning his defense, he moved a pawn to capture one of hers.

"So you're pregnant?"

She coughed on a sip of juice. "I should have known you'd listen to the radio," she said.

"It's my job to stay informed," Roy nodded, watching her. "Congratulations?"

"No, that's not needed," she said hastily. "I'm not pregnant. At all. Just a prank."

He'd been wondering that it might have been and it was tempting to tease her further about it, but he wasn't sure if she'd take it too well.

"You have a lot of pranks to deal with," he remarked instead.

"I can't imagine why," she replied with a bit of a shrug.

"At least you're not wearing cake today," he smirked. "Not yet anyway. Which reminds me..." He started getting up.

Aly eyed him warily. "I can't imagine there'd be a need for cake in my hair today. Do you know how long that took to get out?"

"Why don't you tell me," he suggested, heading back into the kitchen.

"Long enough that I don't need to do it again this week?" she replied, stifling her urge to follow him.

He wasn't gone long anyway and returned with a box of chocolates, placing them on the table. "Monday then," he suggested, sliding back into his chair.

"Cake reminds you of chocolate?" Aly asked with a smirk.

"They're both sweet?" he shrugged and moved his knight across the board.

She raised an eyebrow at the move, attention immediately drawn back to the board. "Monday would be fine," she said absently.

She pushed her bishop over to block the knight.

Roy watched her amused. "Did you just give me permission to throw cake at you on Monday?"

"If you wish to suffer the consequences of such an action, certainly," Aly said, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Ah see, if I'm going to be suffering consequences then I'd rather have it be over something that you didn't give me permission on," he told her, moving another pawn.

Her eyes lit up just a hair before she looked back at the board to decide upon capturing a pawn.

"So what would you do? If you were going to suffer the consequences."
