MCA #7 - After noon

Having the day off, Roy was reading through a book on Earth weapons. His chess board was on the dining room table, set up already for a game that he intended to win. He would need his uniform to get cleaned after it got cake on it after all. For now, he was actually wearing slacks and a white shirt. He could do casual.

"Any time," he told her warmly and opened the door for her. "Careful in the hall."

"Oh, I shall be," she told him, brushing his forearm with her hand as she left. "I hear it's terribly dangerous."

"It's gotten better since the sheriff moved onto the floor," he told her lightly. His hand slipped in his pocket as he stepped into the hall after her, leaving the door behind him open.

"You know, I thought I was just imagining that," she replied, amused, as she opened the door to her apartment. "Good to to see it's not just me."

"I hear he takes his job very seriously," he said amused, noting that she didn't have to unlock her door.

She leaned against the door frame, facing him. "I've heard that too. Some would say too seriously and he ought to sleep more."

Roy laughed. "Strange, I haven't heard that one before."

Aly raised an eyebrow. "Funny. Because I know I've said it to you before."

"Oh wait, now I remember," he smirked at her. "I didn't call you to let you know when I was going to bed, did I? Perhaps I should."

"You didn't," she agreed. "I was almost ready to knock on your door to find out if you were sleeping."

"Why didn't you?" he asked, looking amused at the idea.

"Didn't want to wake you up," she said with a wink.

Roy grinned. "Maybe I wouldn't have minded."

She smirked. "But would you have gone back to sleep?"

"That would have been up to you," he said casually. She probably was too far away to notice the glint in his eye.

It was too bad she wasn't looking for it.

"You don't strike me as the type of person who is used enough to sleeping to be able to fall back asleep."

"Perhaps not, but I've been to war," he explained, figuring that was enough of an explanation about his sleeping habits.

She nodded, understanding the point well. "Sleep whenever you can because it's never enough."

He nodded, not that it had helped him much. Getting to sleep was pretty easy, staying it longer than three hours was harder. "One of the more useful habits to pick up on."

"Too bad there's not an easier way to learn it," she said with a smile. "Regardless, if you ever need someone to talk you to sleep," she grinned. "You know where I am."

"As if you'd be able to think of something boring," he teased even if he appreciated the offer.

She smiled at the compliment. "Hey, I'm a spy. I could tell you about surveillance methods and have you sleeping like a baby in no time."

"We'll see," he said with a smirk, considering picking her up on the challenge.

"I'll be sure to have very boring illustrations," she said, trying to prevent a grin this time.

"I'm impressed already," he said with a laugh.
