MCA #10 - Evening

There was a lack of overenthusiastic kittens to greet Roy as he pushed the door to Aly's apartment open. There was a definite lack of kittens and Aly in the living room too.

"Did you leave without saying goodbye?" Roy asked, following the sounds coming from the bedroom.

Aly grinned to herself but pretended she didn't notice his look and she sorted through clothes, trying to find a dress.

He could make some suggestions, but he stayed right where he was and his curiosity finally won out over his hesitation. He wasn't sure if she'd want to discuss this, so he'd start with something innocent so he could back off if she seemed uncomfortable. "What did you wear to your wedding?"

The pause wasn't long enough to be very noticeable. "Nothing fancy," she said quietly, her fingers reaching out to brush over a blue fabric embroidered with gold. "A sarong and jacket. Lots of flowers."

"Dove didn't insist on it being fancy?" he asked, not moving despite his urge to get up and touch her.

Aly snorted at the thought. "No. Less attention drawn, the better. Mother and Da were over from Tortall for Dove's coronation."

He tilted his head. "So you combined the events?"

Now she just laughed. "That's not a serious question, right? The priest and priestess really couldn't turn from crowning the new Queen of the Copper Isles, She Who Was Foretold, to marry her spymaster. No, it was a few months later. Dove was crowned at midwinter, but the foreign ambassadors stayed through the winter because of the difficulties traveling. We were married in February."

Roy rolled his eyes. "I didn't mean in public, just that you took advantage of them being there," he tossed her stockings at her back. "What was the ceremony like?"

She reached a hand back to catch the stockings without turning around. "Smaller than some wanted," she said wryly, remember the protests she'd gotten from her aunts and uncles later. "The priestess of the Goddess married us and managed not to faint at the sight of Mother at the same time. I was impressed."

"You wanted it small?" he asked, his fingers combing through Dee's fur.

Aly thought for a moment, her fingers still touching the blue fabric. "I would have liked some more of the Fandom aunts and uncles there, but it didn't need to be a big thing. I was just happy my parents were there."

"And Nawat," he guessed. "You don't mind me asking about it?"

"Nawat was going to be there no matter what," Aly said dryly. She turned to him finally. "Why would I?"

He shrugged a shoulder, but the gesture wasn't entirely casual. "I don't want to make you feel awkward."

She tilted her head towards him, crossing towards the bed again. "You're not. Is it awkward for you? Talking about this?"

"Maybe a little," he admitted, glancing up at her.

"We don't have to," she murmured, pushing the bag out of the way so she could sit next to him on the bed, hre hand reaching out to stroke over his side then Dee's.

"I know," he said softly, reaching up to brush her hair behind her shoulder. "I want to."

"What do you want to know?" she asked, tilting her head into his hand even as she got caught up giving Dee the scritches demanded.

He propped himself up on his elbow and he would her stroked her hair, but the angle was odd so he slid his hand down her back. "Nothing specifically," he admitted. "I know it's an important part of your life, I don't want you to feel like you have to ignore it."

"I don't feel like I need to ignore it," Aly said quietly, laying down next to him so their eyes were on a level. "I loved Nawat very, very much. He's always going to be a part of my life."

Roy nodded in understanding, knowing that having Lianna made that even more true and he wasn't sure why that made him wonder about Ed. "I know," he said softly.

"Doesn't mean I don't love you too," she murmured.

"I know that too," he said quietly, smiling faintly as he reached up to brush his fingertips over her lips.

"So no reason to feel awkward?" Aly said, gently kissing his fingers.
